50 projects were awarded through the Green Spaces Program 2014

MOL Romania will provide the funding of 650,000 Ron for 50 environmental projects through the Green Spaces program, implemented in partnership with the Environmental Partnership Foundation.

·         MOL Romania will provide funding of 650,000 RON for the implementation of 50 environmental protection projects in the framework of the ninth edition of the Green Spaces Program, implemented in partnership with the Environmental Partnership Foundation.

·         The total sum awarded since the beginning of the program excesses the equivalent in Ron of 1 million Euros.

·          Projects awarded through the ninth edition of the program will be carried out in 24 counties of the country.

The Environmental Partnership Foundation has selected the 50 projects that will receive funds totaling 650,798 Ron out of a total of 179 applications from 35 counties. As in the previous years, the Green Spaces Program has two components - the Urban Green Spaces and the Protected Areas.

 

"The evaluation of the projects within the two components of the Green Spaces program showed us the continuous interest of non-governmental organizations and communities to engage in activities that lead to the improvement of the urban environment, awareness for the values of the natural heritage of Romania. Methods of approach that are described in the approved projects are characterized by a high degree of innovation and creativity." said László Potozky, director of the Environmental Partnership Foundation.

 

For the Urban Green Spaces component there were received 94 applications, of which 27 were selected by the program's Evaluation Committee. These awarded organizations will redesign the courtyards of schools, of children's centers and kindergartens, of public parks in 25 cities, 17 counties.

It also will be planted over 2,000 trees and shrubs and 14,000 flowers on an area of around 30,000 square meters. These lands will become spaces for raising awareness activities towards the environmental protection, especially for students.

 

A total of 85 applications were received through the Protected Areas component and 23 of those were selected for funding. The winners were awarded for Junior Ranger activities, arranging thematic trails, the organization of events such as "Protected Areas’ Day", "The Day of Biodiversity", for exhibitions and arranging sightseeing centers. These projects will be implemented in 14 counties of the country.

In the eight previous editions of the Green Spaces Program, implemented during the 2006-2013 period, more than 134.000 volunteers were involved. Funded projects have "greened" an area of about 363.000 square meters. Also, this program supported 124 projects of popularization of the importance of protected areas, through various activities: the creation or improvement of visitor centers of the protected areas, the organization of the Junior Ranger camps - in which children were guided in the area of protection and preservation of the natural heritage, establishment of thematic trails with educational purposes.

 

The maximum amount that can be allocated to a project for the rehabilitation or creation of urban green spaces is 9,000 Ron. In the case of projects for the popularization of the protected areas, the maximum sum is 20,000 Ron.
