Speak Up and Get Involved
Between 2006 and 2010, the Partnership Foundation in Miercurea-Ciuc implemented the SPEAK UP AND GET INVOLVED program, dedicated to environmental non-governmental organizations in Romania.
The mission of the program was to strengthen the advocacy and monitoring activities of environmental NGOs, with a focus on influencing environmental policies and overseeing the implementation of national and European legislation.
Launched in a context marked by actions that affected the environment and violated legislation, the program aimed to strengthen the environmental non-governmental sector and to form a network of NGOs capable of reacting to illegal and environmentally harmful initiatives.
In parallel, the program sought to increase the accountability and efficiency of public institutions, promote democracy among citizens, and involve other interested parties. In addition to financial resources provided, the program facilitated networking meetings and thematic workshops.
Furthermore, both financially and logistically, the program supported the organization of the National Forum of Environmental NGOs in Sibiu in November 2009.
The funded projects prioritized actions to stop aggression against the environment, monitor compliance with environmental legislation, and highlight violations of Romanian and European laws in this area.
The program's budget was $275,000, benefiting from an additional co-financing of $225,000 from the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe.
