Greenways are successful and well recognized initiatives in Western European countries and in the United States. Greenways are routes, trails and natural corridors that are used in harmony with their ecological function and offer the opportunity for sports, tourism and recreation.
Greenways offer many benefits for our environment, improvement of the quality of life, and present an opportunity for sustainable economic activities for the local population in towns and the countryside. The Environmental Partnership Foundation is the initiator of the Greenway movement in Romania. Besides creating the first greenway (The Mineral Water Trail), the Foundation offers technical and financial support for the establishment of other greenways in Romania. As a result of this initiative seven more greenways were developed as follows:
• The Spruce Pine Way • The Golden Way • The MM Heritage Trail • The Salt Way • Limestone Trail • Tur River Trail • Saxon Greenway
